Nights of Gethsemane by StarCrossed (27/?)

  • Jan. 15th, 2008 at 5:13 PM

I cheated. I wasn't letting myself post this until I finished a later chapter so that I wouldn't fall behind. That chapter was coming on too slowly, so I took a very long chapter and moved 1/3 of it to a new chapter so now I am ahead! \o/

Harry numbly stumbled after Avery as the Death Eater dragged him down to his cell. Avery grabbed him by the hair and shoved him against the wall, his body pressing into Harry’s back.

“I’m going to fuck you so hard you won’t be able to walk for a week after I’m finished with you,” Avery promised. He stepped back from Harry and ran his left hand down Harry’s spine in a perverse caress. When he reached Harry’s arse, he shoved a finger inside.

Harry hissed in pain and tried to pull away. Even though Snape had just fucked him, Avery was so rough, it hurt.

“Still tight. I’ll change that.” Avery licked Harry’s cheek before throwing him onto the bed.

Avery licked his lips and began to unzip his pants. Harry stared at him in horror. He’d be stuck with Avery for an entire week. Avery would chain him to the bed and rape him every day.

Harry wasn’t going to let him. When the Death Eater moved to the edge of the bed, Harry brought up his leg and kicked Avery in the nuts as hard as he could. Avery’s hands flew to his groin and he bent over in pain.

Harry jumped to his feet and punched the Death Eater in the nose with all the force he could manage. It hurt his knuckles like hell but the sound of cracking bone was music to his ears, and the river of blood that followed was the most beautiful sight Harry had ever seen.

Avery yanked out his wand and Harry grabbed it out of his hand and threw it away. He slammed his shoulder into Avery, knocking him into the wall. He punched Avery as hard as he could, aiming for the spots where it hurt the most. One good thing about Dudley’s treatment of him was that he knew how to hit someone to cause pain. He had learned to hide those parts from Dudley and offer less delicate sections instead. Avery was pureblood and obviously had never been in a fist fight before. He was too shocked and stunned to do anything but bring up his arms to protect his head.

It was hard for Harry to punch with his wrists bound together, but he managed to do it. All of his anger flowed towards his fist and the more he punched, the more enraged he became. His vision swam and his heart was a rapid drum that encouraged him to pound his fists into the body before him until it became unrecognizable as human. He quickly forgot about trying to hit Avery in the parts where he could do the most damage as his anger grew sharper and sharper until his whole body felt as though it were on fire.

Fuck him. Fuck all of them. He wasn’t going to be their bitch. He was going to fucking destroy them all. Pay them back for what they did to him. His attacks quickly moved lower and he focused on slamming his fist into Avery’s groin as hard as he could.

Avery was screaming in Harry’s ear but Harry was too focused on destroying his genitals to care what he was yelling. Hands pushed on his shoulders and he was so off balance that he fell back on the bed.

Concrito Fetallis!” Chains appeared, binding Harry’s cuffs to the bed. Harry quickly adjusted himself so that he could attack the Death Eater if he dared approach him again.

“You little shite. You fucking bitch.” Avery spat blood and stumbled over to his wand. “You’re going to beg for mercy by the time I’m finished with you. I’ll cut off your balls and feed them to you!” He muttered a few spells, healing himself clumsily.

“I’ll bite off your dick!” Harry snarled.

“I’ll remove all your teeth!” Avery levelled his wand at Harry. “Immobilus!”

Harry sagged against the bed as his limbs refused to move anymore. If that bastard tried to touch him, he’d have his revenge. He’d rip off his balls and then kill him.

Avery stumbled back over, moving between Harry’s legs. He closed his hands around Harry’s throat. “You slag! You will regret ever touching me.”

STUPEFY!” Snape yelled.

Avery slumped over Harry. Snape grabbed the Death Eater and threw him to the floor. He removed the chains and grabbed Harry by the upper arms, pulling him to a sitting position.

“DID HE RAPE YOU?” Snape demanded.

Huh? Where did Snape come from? Why was he so angry? His grip on Harry’s forearms hurt and his black eyes were burning with anger. Harry had never seen Snape’s face so wild and it was very unnerving.

“What?”

“Did he put his cock inside you?” Snape snarled, looking as though he was going to bite Harry’s head off.

It was so strange to hear Snape say ‘cock.’ Was this one of those things where Harry did something he wasn’t supposed to do? Was he supposed to play the submissive slave and let Avery rape him?

“No, I…I…” Harry shook his head. “I’m sorry; I couldn’t let him rape me, so I… I beat the shite out of him.”

Snape was staring at Harry’s chest, and Harry glanced down to see blood covering his torso. “Oh, it’s not mine. I broke his nose.”

Snape stared at him. “I thought… I was sure… you aren’t hurt?”

“No, you’re bruising me more than he did.”

Snape instantly released Harry. Harry rubbed his upper arms where Snape had tightly gripped him. “You should’ve seen him before he healed himself. I’m pretty sure I cracked a rib or two in addition to his broken nose.”

“Stupid boy.” There was no malice in Snape’s voice, nor in the hands that fluttered quickly over Harry’s body, checking for injuries. Once Snape was sure Harry had not been hurt, he straightened and his expression changed so suddenly back to his normal cool composure, that it was almost as if he had instantly been replaced by another person.

Snape stepped away from him and approached the fallen Death Eater. “You must never do that again. The consequences of such an action would be severe.” He floated Avery out of the cell and toward the library. “I will attempt to Imperio him, but it won’t last a week. If you want him gone then you must hurt yourself.”

Snape wasn’t staying? Harry forced down the stab of disappointment he felt in his chest. “What? What d’you mean? Aren’t you-”

“The Dark Lord has ordered you to remain unharmed while you are away from his presence,” Snape interrupted. “If Avery hurts you continuously, then the Dark Lord will remove him. You must only hurt yourself when it can be assumed that Avery was responsible for the injury. Get his minor acts to become dangerous ones.”

Snape approached Harry again and put his hand on his shoulder, squeezing it lightly. “I shouldn’t be here. Never let the Dark Lord see this memory. I should go now before he misses my presence. Don’t forget to practise.” He released Harry’s shoulder and hurried from the room.

Harry washed himself in the sink. He wasn’t sure he was strong enough to spend a week without Snape under the guard of Avery, but if Snape thought he’d be able to, then he must have the capability.

He hid his clothes under the mattress, knowing that Avery would take them from him if he found them. He crawled into bed and relived beating the crap out of Avery in his head. He hoped he had ruined the bastard’s genitals. It had felt wonderful and he was glowing with pleasure when he suddenly realised that what he had done had probably been very stupid indeed. He had just roughed up the Death Eater who was in charge of him for an entire week. Snape was a powerful wizard, but could he really Imperio Avery for an entire week? Avery had to be pretty powerful himself to be so high in Voldemort's esteem. When Avery recovered himself, he would pay Harry back tenfold. Snape was right; Harry really needed to think before he acted.

The knowledge of what he had done made Harry nervous, but he tried to force it from his mind. He should instead concentrate on finding ways to get Avery to hurt him so that Snape could be returned to him as soon as possible. He assumed that Snape was out there trying to find a way to do the same. He finally managed to fall asleep, hoping that he would have Snape for a prison guard again as soon as possible.

~

Harry was reading his book when Snape walked into his cell followed by Avery and Malfoy.

“I’m going to California to collect more plants,” Snape informed him casually. “Avery or Malfoy will take over from now on. Which one do you chose?”

“I don’t want to choose either! I want to stay with you!” Harry pleaded.

“My bed or his knife.” Avery grinned, showing all his teeth.

Malfoy opened a large black bag that had all manners of wicked instruments. “I bought these just for you.”

Harry threw himself on Snape. “Take me with you! Please! I’ll let you whip me and have sex with me everyday!”

“Okay, but you must wear shoes. You never wear shoes.” Snape frowned at him.

“You never gave me any…” he protested.

Snape grabbed his arm and they were suddenly on the back of a Hippogriff flying so high in the air that the earth was a giant beach ball beneath them. They flew down for a landing and Harry shut his eyes at the blinding force of the wind. When he opened them, the Hippogriff had disappeared. White sand dunes rose up around them no matter where Harry looked. “Where are we?”

“Death Valley.”

“I hate sand.” Harry saw that he was sinking into it. He struggled to pull himself out of it, but it was hard. “Why are we here Snape?” There was no answer and when he looked around, he didn’t see Snape anymore.

“Snape?” He turned himself around to try to find a speck of black that meant Snape hadn’t left him. “Snape, where did you go?” It was hard to walk in the sand which kept slipping beneath his feet. He tried to climb the highest sand dune to look around but he slid down it every time he managed to climb halfway up. “SNAPE!” he screamed. “I DON’T KNOW HOW TO GET BACK!”

The sand whipped up around him and he couldn’t see anything other than darkness. “SNAPE! Please! Help me!”

He flailed violently in the bed and woke up to discover himself tangled in his blankets. His heart pounding, Harry carefully extracted himself. Not knowing what else to do, he awaited Avery’s arrival with sweaty palms and a dry mouth.

When the Death Eater finally strode into the hallway, Harry was starving. The Death Eater glared at Harry as if the young wizard was the most disgusting thing he had ever seen. He did not have the look of someone who was Imperio’d and Harry’s heart skipped a beat.

“You smell. When was the last time you had a bath?”

“Yesterday,” Harry quickly answered, wanting to stay as far away from Avery as possible.

“Disgusting,” he spat. “Follow me.”

Harry reluctantly got to his feet and approached the bars. Avery spelled the chain and opened the bars for Harry to step through. Harry walked as far away from Avery as he could as he headed to the bathroom. He hopped into the tub as soon as he reached the bathroom. Avery spelled on the shower and Harry bit back a yelp as ice cold water cascaded down on him. He grit his teeth and quickly cleaned himself. He didn’t know if Voldemort would feel his coldness but he hoped he did. Once Harry had finished cleaning himself, he pretended to trip over the edge of the tub and smacked his head against the wall. He fell harder than he intended to and sharp pain strummed through his head, making his vision swim for a moment.

“You idiot!” Avery snarled at him and kicked him in the shin. Harry tried to reach for a towel but Avery kicked his hand away. “Back to your cage, now.”

Harry got to his feet and stumbled back to his bed. Avery grew impatient with his slow pace and shoved Harry through the bars. Harry did not move to stop the fall, letting his elbow hit the ground. Pain radiated up his arm and he bit his lip as he tried to pretend he hadn’t been hurt.

Avery tapped the table with his wand and left. Harry pulled himself up to his feet and examined the offerings. On his table was a bowl of cold soup and a piece of mouldy bread. Harry picked off the mould and ate the bread before drinking the soup. He was still hungry when he finished, but he pushed his hunger from his mind. He didn’t care if Avery beat him or starved him as long as he didn’t rape him.

Harry climbed onto his bed and read Cosmos, with an ear turned to the door in case Avery returned. He wanted to exercise, but he was so hungry and he didn’t know if it would be wise to exercise in a state of hunger. He couldn’t concentrate on the book for very long and returned it to its hiding place under the mattress.

He wondered what Snape was doing. What sort of task would Voldemort send him on? Harry didn’t want Snape to do bad things, but Voldemort would forgive Snape quicker if the Potions master successfully carried out his work. A wave of guilt washed over Harry. It was selfish of him to hope that whatever evil Snape was doing, he would do it well and return to Harry as quickly as possible. Harry shouldn’t want Snape to commit sins, and it was horrible of Harry to want Snape to succeed at Death Eater work. Especially since this was his fault. Harry had selfishly asked Snape to make sure that Avery wouldn’t have the chance to torture him. Obviously, that had enraged Avery so much that the Death Eater had managed to get himself placed in charge of Harry for an entire week. If Harry hadn’t requested to have Snape intervene in Death Eater business, then none of this would’ve happened. He had put both of them and their plan at risk. He should’ve been braver and let Avery torture him in the throne room. At least there, Snape would’ve been able to stop Avery from doing anything too horrible to Harry.

Harry clenched his pillow tightly. He felt so conflicted. If Snape were good, Harry wouldn’t have to worry about being killed so that Snape could become the next Dark Lord. On the other hand, if Snape were evil, Snape would do exactly what needed to be done in order to gain Voldemort’s favour again and be repositioned as Harry’s prison guard. Was this what Snape meant when he spoke of ‘a necessary evil’? Harry doubted he could kill an innocent person even if he needed to in order to defeat Voldemort. He always had a strong sense of morals, and even now, after all that had happened, he still couldn’t kill anyone who didn’t deserve it.

Then again, however much it pained him to admit it, a part of him hoped that Snape could do what was necessary, even if that meant killing innocent people. Had being around Snape so much turned him evil too? Was some evil necessary in order for good to triumph? Had he become twisted or practical? Harry just didn’t know what to think.

Avery finally returned, slamming the library door as he entered.

“Put your hands between the bars!” He jabbed his wand at the bedposts at the end of the bed from where Harry was currently sitting.

Harry hesitated, not sure what to do.

Concrito Fetallis!” Harry’s hands were pulled apart and chained to the bedposts against the back wall of the cell.

“I gave you an order, slave!” Avery growled, his face filled with rage. He pointed his wand at Harry. “Volespiro!”

Harry could no longer breathe. He tried gasping for breath, but his lungs refused to move.

Avery stepped through the bars. “I can think of plenty of ways to torture you while the Dark Lord is away.”

Just when Harry’s lungs began to burn, Avery released him and he gasped for breath.

“Why didn’t you tell me you were hurt?” Avery demanded.

Ah, so Voldemort had chewed out the Death Eater. Harry kept the grin off his face. “You were there, I thought you knew.”

Avery cut off Harry’s breath again, holding it for longer this time.

As Harry panted when his breath was returned, Avery released the bonds. “Get in the cupboard. Crawl!”

Harry thought of telling him to fuck off, but he was afraid that whatever Snape had done wouldn’t remain stable if he antagonised the Death Eater too much, so he climbed down off the bed and got on his hands and knees. He crawled out through the bars and to the cupboard. Avery kicked him in and slammed the door shut.

Harry curled up in the dark and tried to ignore his growling stomach. He could get through this. Snape and Mcnair had both locked him in the cupboard for days at a time.

He forced himself to try to fall asleep but couldn’t remain there for long. When Harry realised that, even in the complete darkness, he wasn’t going to be able to sleep, he practised jumping to his feet quickly. It was difficult to do in the small cell and it made him unbearably hungry, so he stopped before long.

After what seemed like forever, Avery opened the flap at the bottom and pushed in a bowl of cold soup. Harry drank it quickly and curled up on the floor. The good thing about being starved was that he didn’t have to use the toilet. He had no bucket, and he hated the idea of what he’d have to do if he needed to go while locked in the cupboard.

His thoughts turned back to Snape. He needed to come up with ways to get Snape restored as his guard besides just hurting himself. He couldn’t very well make it look like Avery was hurting him if he was to be locked in a cupboard the entire time. Furthermore, whatever Snape had done to Avery appeared to be working, but Harry did not trust it to last long. He wanted to be well away from Avery by the time the Death Eater recovered his true self.

Harry thought of the wonderful meals Snape fixed him, the training they did together, the books Snape gave him, and the conversations they had together. He would welcome Snape’s lectures as long as he had someone to talk to. Hell, Snape could make fun of him all day as long as he trained him and talked to him. Harry had no idea how he had managed to stand the beginning of his imprisonment when Snape had been a sadistic bastard instead of a partial ally. He wouldn’t have been able to hold himself together if Snape had remained evil.

He felt guilty once he realised he had immediately focused on Snape and how much he missed him, instead of thinking of Ron and Hermione or Ginny. Of course, if given the chance, he’d pick Ron and Hermione over Snape in a second, and the intensity of his positive feelings towards his best friends was considerably greater than his positive feelings for Snape.

But…Ron and Hermione weren’t likely to come and save him from Avery. He figured that they were busy focusing on the Horcruxes now. Snape had the ability and would probably come back to protect him. And because of that, Harry decided to focus on Snape and plan ways to have the Potions master returned to him.

Harry was still planning when Avery returned and pushed more soup through the flap.

“Please! I need to use the toilet!” Harry quickly requested. Avery opened the door, sneering at him with contempt.

“Crawl,” he snarled.

Harry crawled into the bathroom obediently. He wanted nothing more than to beat Avery into a pulp again, but that wouldn’t bring Snape back. Harry needed Avery to hurt him but not too much. He remembered how Snape had warned him that if he pushed a Death Eater too far, he could be accidentally killed by one. He also didn’t want Avery to rape him and he was afraid that if he made Avery too angry, the Death Eater might remember his former self and attack Harry.

After Harry had used the toilet, he washed his hands and began to walk back to his cell.

“On your knees!” Avery growled.

Harry bent down. “Are you doing this so that you seem taller?” Avery was only a few inches taller than Harry and, as a short man himself, Harry knew how sensitive many smaller guys were about their height.

Avery kicked him in the ribs. Harry held himself firm and leaned into the kick so that it would hurt as much as possible.

“That’ll be the last time I let you out!” He grabbed Harry by the arm and dragged him back to the cupboard. He picked up the bowl of soup and dumped it over Harry’s head before slamming the door shut.

The soup had been chicken with rice and Harry ate the bits of it he could find and licked as much broth off his skin as he could reach. He hoped that the pains from his hungry stomach were bothering Voldemort. He curled up and attempted to rest.

~

Soup was offered again many hours later. Harry drank it quickly, grimacing as it seemed to only intensify his hunger. Even at their worst, the Dursleys were not nearly this bad. It worried Harry. How would he be able to train if his body was eating itself?

He felt miserable. Without the nest Snape had made for him, the floor of the cupboard was unbearably hard and Harry was stiff all over. The soup he hadn’t been able to lick off of himself made him all sticky, and when he touched his hair, he could tell it was stiff. When Avery opened the door of the cell after what seemed like forever, the bright lights hurt Harry’s eyes.

“Crawl back to your cage,” Avery ordered and fear stabbed through Harry. How long had it been since Snape had done whatever he did to Avery?

Harry crawled out. “I need to use the toilet.”

“On your bed.” Avery cut off Harry’s breath. “Or you won’t breathe.”

Harry let himself fall against the wall when his breath was cut off. He righted himself and hurried over to his bed, climbing on top of it just before his vision turned black. Avery released him and he gulped down air desperately.

Concretio Ferratilis!” Avery chained him to the bed and then stepped into the cell. Harry moved as far away from Avery as he possibly could on the bed. He thought about how Snape had told him to play the submissive slave, but he didn’t think he could do it.

Avery walked over to the table and spelled food on the surface. He left in an angry sweep of his robes, unchaining Harry before he disappeared from sight.

“Bloody hell...” Harry breathed, falling back against the bed in relief. He had been so sure he was going to be raped. Snape must be a very powerful wizard to be able to compel a wizard to act against his nature for days at a time. It was a shame Snape wasn’t going to train him anymore once he defeated Voldemort. He had the feeling that if Snape continued to teach him, he could become quite powerful.

Once Harry had calmed down enough to eat his meal, he climbed out of bed and approached the table. He was given cold soup but also a block of cheese, two apples, and a packet of crackers. He ate everything but the apples, hiding them in the corner of his bed under bunched blankets. He ran through his morning routine, glad to be able to brush his teeth again. It was difficult to try to wash the dried soup out of his hair, but he did his best and once he felt clean again, he exercised until he was sweaty.

By the time he had finished his second bath, he felt okay again. There had been a huge weight in his chest ever since he had learned he had been given to Avery and while it wasn’t gone, it didn’t press on him as it had before. He ate one of his apples, flushing the stem and seeds down the toilet when he was finished.

He climbed on his bed and finished Cosmos. He had just returned it to the mattress when Avery stepped into the hallway and chained him to the bed. He cut off the young wizard’s breath and watched with glee as Harry struggled on the bed in his attempts to force his lungs to move again. He released the spell long enough for Harry to gasp for breath and then recast it as he stepped into the cell. Harry figured out what he was doing so that when Avery released the spell for a second time, he took as much air into his lungs as he could and moved to the head of the bed. Avery recast the spell after conjuring food on the table and held it there until he left the cell. Harry struggled, smacking his head against the wall as he did so. Avery immediately removed all the magic he had cast at once and Harry breathed deeply until he no longer felt dizzy and faint. He was disappointed that he hadn’t managed to hurt himself more this time. Next time he would get into a position where he could knock his head against the wall right from the start.

Once the Death Eater left, Harry approached the table eagerly. Obviously, Voldemort had yelled at Avery for this treatment of Harry. Harry never thought he’d be relying on Voldemort to protect him from a Death Eater, or, in the case of Snape, a Death Eater to protect him from Voldemort. The world seemed to have turned on its head.

Harry ate quickly. The meal, a repeat of the last, was enough to fill him. He exercised until he was tired and then took a bath. He had gotten quite adept at cleaning himself with a sink and a flannel and didn’t spill nearly as much water on the floor as he used to. Once he was dry, he returned to his bed and read the art book.

The nude bodies aroused him, and he was about to set it to the side to prevent himself from growing harder when he realised that he had never had a more perfect time to masturbate. Snape rarely gave him hours alone, and Harry hadn’t had a proper wank in forever. Harry lay down on the bed with his head towards the door so he’d hear Avery’s approach. The Death Eater was far noisier than Snape and could usually be heard even on the stairs.

Harry had always gone straight for the prize in his masturbation sessions but he decided to take his time and enjoy himself. Snape had shown him that it felt good to play with other parts of his body besides his dick.

He closed his eyes and stroked his nipples with his fingers. It felt good, but not nearly as wonderful as when Snape did it, even when he replicated the motions Snape used. He imagined Snape between his legs, sucking him off, as he continued to play with the small nubs. The mental image made him very hard and he reached down with one hand to grip his cock, pretending that his fingers were Snape’s mouth. Snape would just take the tip in at first, only moving the foreskin as he bobbed his head.

Fuck, it felt so hot as if Snape were really there, sucking on his cock. Snape would touch that spot between Harry’s balls. Harry spread his legs and moved his other hand down to rub himself as Snape had done. His cock was dripping with precum and everything he was doing was driving him wild, but he’d be desperate with need if Snape had been doing those things to him. He moved the fingers that were rubbing behind his nuts down to stroke his puckered entrance. It felt amazing whenever Snape pressed against that spot inside. Snape had said that only men had that spot, so it wouldn’t make him a woman if he masturbated while fingering himself. Harry moved his fingers to his mouth and sucked on the digits to get them wet as he slowed the hand on his prick.

Once his fingers were wet, he returned them to his bum and pushed his middle finger through the tight ring of muscle. He felt his body clench around the digit. It felt strange; he was so incredibly tight around his finger he wondered how he ever had managed to fit Snape’s cock inside him. He tried pushing the finger up further but it didn’t seem to want to go until he pushed back against it from inside. It moved more easily and once he had it all the way inside him, he squeezed his muscles around it.

He pulled his finger out and pushed it back in again, feeling his anus cling to the digit. He added a second finger and tried to find his prostate. He wasn’t sure what he was even looking for and pressed randomly over his walls. He couldn’t get it to work right. Pressing in and up towards his stomach a certain way gave him a jolt but it was nothing like what Snape managed to do. Did Snape’s long fingers help or was the older wizard just more experienced even though he claimed to be straight?

Harry fucked himself with his fingers as he curled his other hand around his prick and imagined that Snape was blowing him. Snape would suck so hard, his tongue working on the tip of Harry’s penis as he bobbed his head up and down the shaft.

“Fuck!” His balls were tight between his legs and he was going to blow soon. He removed his fingers from his arse so he could fuck his right hand with full force. He jerked himself faster, biting back a cry as he spurted, covering the palm of his left hand with his semen.

He rested until he caught his breath and then cupped his seed to his stomach as he made his way to the toilet. He cleaned himself off and returned to his bed.

It wasn’t nearly as good as sex. His orgasms during sex seemed to drain his entire body of fluids and sometimes he came so hard that he couldn’t move afterwards. If gay sex made him orgasm like that and he wasn’t gay then straight sex must be mind blowingly fantastic.

If he was able to be with Ginny before the final battle he would have to have sex with her. Sex orgasms led to a feeling of intense calm and satisfaction and would clean his mind and ease his nerves before he went to face Voldemort. Even his masturbation left him feeling better than he had since Snape left.

Harry curled up in a ball and fell asleep easily.

~

He woke feeling fairly refreshed considering his situation. He picked up Cosmos and reread his favourite parts. He was looking at pictures of Nebulas when he heard Avery walk down the stairs. Harry hid the book and moved off the bed to stand at the sink and brush his teeth.

“Get on the bed,” Avery ordered.

Harry continued brushing his teeth.

Volespiro!” Avery hit him with the suffocating spell and Harry spit out the toothpaste as he clutched the edge of the sink.

Avery finally released the spell, and Harry allowed himself to fall to the floor, knocking his head against the sink.

“Are you stupid?!” Avery shouted as he stormed into the cell.

“I’m not doing it on purpose!” Harry lied.

Avery grabbed Harry by the upper arm and dragged him to the bed. He threw Harry down on it and grabbed the young wizard’s hands, forcing them up above his head. He cast the chaining spell but kept his hands on Harry’s arms, pinning them in place.

Oh no, was the Death Eater starting to return to his normal self? Harry went still, remembering how Avery had told him that he was turned on by Harry’s struggling. He sneaked a glance up at Avery and didn’t like the glint he thought he saw in Avery’s eye. Snape’s spell was finally wearing off.

Luckily, Avery shook himself and stepped away from Harry to spell food on the table. Harry was very grateful Snape was such a powerful wizard. How many days had it been since Snape had left him? Harry guessed four had passed and yet Avery was still being affected by whatever Snape had done. If Snape wanted to be the next Dark Lord, he had the raw talent. Still, Avery was beginning to recover himself. If Snape didn’t return soon, Harry was going to get raped.

After Avery had freed him and left, Harry rubbed the sore spot on his head where he had hit himself. He didn’t know what to do. He needed to push the Death Eater to get Snape returned but he was afraid that doing so would make Avery rape him. Voldemort had said that Snape’s punishment would last a week. Harry had at least three more days to go. He wasn’t sure he could last another. If Avery was starting to recover himself he’d be completely restored in a few more days. Harry swallowed hard. Snape had better being doing everything he could to return to him.

Harry ate his meagre breakfast without paying attention to what he was putting in his mouth. He would try his best to get hurt every time Avery approached him from now on. He would just make sure that Avery tortured him from a distance. His mind made up, Harry began to run through his exercises to try to take his mind of the danger facing him.

When Avery didn’t return to the cell for many hours, Harry grew nervous. Finally, Avery arrived to bring him lunch. Harry let himself fall out of bed when Avery took away his breath. He slammed his nose into the floor but then pretended that he hadn’t been harmed at all. Avery left and Harry discreetly wiped away the blood.

Harry was still eating lunch when Avery stormed back in. “Put your wrists together,” he snarled.

Harry hesitantly did.

Avery spelled the chain. “Come, follow me,” he ordered and opened the bars.

Harry did so slowly. Avery grabbed him by the chain and yanked him forward. Harry tried to knock himself against the bars but Avery held him firmly.

“Move, you worthless piece of shite!” He grabbed Harry by the hair and dragged him towards the library. Harry stumbled after him. Had Voldemort arrived? Harry didn’t dare hope so he held down his feelings but quickly stepped into pace beside Avery.

Avery pulled Harry into the throne room and threw him on the floor. Harry glanced up to see Voldemort was standing in the centre of the dais with hateful look twisting his features. On his right, Snape stood, his face turned towards Harry, without any expression at all.

Well you have sufficiently blindsided me. I was expecting this chapter to be a bloodbath.

I was so not expecting to see Snape arrive at the 11th hour and rescue Harry - although I'm sure Avery's wraith wouldn't have been that night, once he recovered from his beating, Avery would have been merciless.

Very clever of Severus to tell Harry to hurt himself. And now that I'm sure Snape is back, he will be able to recast his spell on Avery.

I'm wondering if LV will keep Snape away for 3 more days, or reinstate him, as he clearly shows more restraint in regards to hurting Harry.

I can't handle these cliffies. You're making me a nervous wreck!!!!

:D I think both Avery and Harry would've been in considerable trouble if Snape had not arrived when he did.

Aww.... I hope to have the next one soon.

Oh yes, true. Harry was so ANGRY he was out of control.... he could've easily killed Avery (Snapes little lecture on angering somebody so much they accidentally kill, although meant as a warning for Harry, was so true) I don't even want to think what would have happened to Harry had that happened... or even if the Dark Lord had come in to see Harry's fists on Avery. He would have been punished sooo severely!

Yeah.,... I think Harry would've eventually killed Avery if Snape hadn't interrupted. That's why I tend to view that scene as Snape saving Harry from Harry rather than Snape saving Harry from Avery.

I thought he was pissed at Avery ;) Harry was right that LV would probably feel Harry's pain. I'm guessing that Snape dropped a few hints to manipulate Voldy about Avery hurting or contaminating Harry also, hee! ^_^

Here's a question related to that I am surprised no one has asked. Voldemort can obviously tell when Harry is in pain even when well away from him which suggests he is using some method to monitor Harry. Yet... Harry spends a lot of his time happy and Harry isn't a complete occlumens which means that when he isn't in times of extreme stress, it is rather easy to read his emotions. Why hasn' Voldemort noticed that Harry is happy or at least content a fair amount of the time and become suspicious of Snape. :x

Damn, I just had a thought! If Voldy can feel Harry's pain, he must be able to feel Harry's pleasure when Snape is having sex with him. Not necessarily the visions, but the feelings. Maybe Voldy has a thing for Snape and won't admit it to himself, lol ;P

I'm going to love reading how you work Voldy noticing Harry's pleasure into this story. How is Snape going to wiggle his way out of this one? O.o
Or maybe Voldy is using the "good cop", "bad cop" routine on Harry to break him or get information? Snape has turned into the "good cop"?

Or Snape knows Harry well enough to know that Harry needs kindness in order to make sure he remains alive throughout his imprisonment. That Harry won't listen to Snape if Snape is mean to him. So Snape is giving Harry some form of comfort that someone sort of "cares". Someone or something Harry's spirit can cling to when times are difficult. Some "hope". In a way Snape is keeping Harry's heart "innocent" so as not to be darkened by all that's happening around him. Not becoming another Snape. I don't know, I suppose all of those ideas are way out on a limb. I'm just prattling on, lol.

Or... Dumbledore ordered Snape to be nice to Harry. Or... Snape wants Voldemort destroyed and he knows that won't happen if Harry falls apart. Or... he's secretly in love with Harry and has been since Hogwarts. Or... Snape made a promise to Lily to care for Harry. Or... Harry reminds Snape of his dead gay lover. Or... Snape is hedging his bets and being nice to Harry so that he can get a sweet deal after Voldemort is destroyed.

Hm... interesting. Now, I sort of wonder - if Avery was forbidden to harm Harry physically, how did he figure to rape him? After all, a violent rape can harm quite a lot. And if Voldy is somehow aware when Harry is hurt, why didn't he react to his fight with Avery?

I also had a few miscellaneous thoughts about the whole setup. Am I right that in your version Bella was a few seconds quicker with her knife and Harry didn't escape the Malfoy mansion? Which would explain why Bella and Lucius seem to be back in favor - or at least more so than they were in canon.

It seems to me that Harry was re-captured, horribly tortured and Snape revealed to Voldy the truth about his soul fragment so that Harry wouldn't be killed. Snape subsequently obliviated Harry - either because the psychic trauma was too severe or because Harry heard something he shouldn't. Also, it seems like in this version both LV and Snape know about HC search via legilimency, but LV doesn't take it seriously because he doesn't believe that 2 non-prophesized teens can harm him.
Of course, it stands to reason that if they fail for long enough they'd look for some expert help, risk or not. But maybe your Voldy believes in prophecy literally enough to think that once Harry is out of the way it won't matter. It was never clear in canon whether Harry was the only one who could kill Voldy or whether anybody could have done it once the Horcruxes were out of the way and Harry was just in the best position to do so.

And frankly, DD's "plan" concerning the Horcrux search in canon always seemed irredeemably stupid to me and the things had to be dumbed down to ridiculuous levels in DH for the trio to actually succeed. I mean, enchantment-removal in Gringotts only as an emergency measure? No Imperius-detection? Super-secure vault that can be opened without a key? Walls of the _wizarding_ bank that can be simply blasted apart? Etc. Basically, it seems to be a wonder that Mundungus Fltetcher didn't rob Gringotts blind ages ago. And the diadem debacle was just painful.

Anyway, I hope that your Snape is much more clueful and clued in than the canon one in DH and is helping H&R with information. He was the one who got a hint that Bella was hiding a Horcrux as early as in the second chapter of HBP and knew her enough to figure the location without a spate of ridiculous deus ex machina. He was the one who could have managed to get her key. And he probably knew quite a lot about protective enchantments of Gringotts and how they could be circumvented, because he would have researched and discussed them with DD during the Stone affair.
So, hopefully he is secretly helping the Horcrux search with information and advice, because given your more realistic depiction of obstacles on the way to victory (i.e. Harry needing to actually learn some skills, employ tactics, carefully stage the final confrontation), it would be terribly jarring if it turns out that they just managed on their own, operating out of the wilderness and without access to any information source. Also, your DEs and Voldy seem more dangerous and competent than the bumbling stooges who can't do anything right of the canon.

I also have a suspicion that your Snape knows about the Elder Wand - and perhaps even managed to remove it from the tomb. His evasions in response to Harry's questions about a wand point that way. Personally, I found the wandlore rigmarole in DH not very convincing and contradictory to what we were told previously. So, if you intend to go for something else it would only be a plus in my eyes.

One thing I wonder about though is the reason why is your Lucius so antagonistic to Snape. He still loves his family in your story, right? And Snape did protect them for a year, at a risk to his own life. Also, it always seemed to me that while they may not have been true friends, there was enough good fellowship and mutually profitable alliance between them. I am not sure if you intend to go in that direction, but it was interesting to see in "Spinner's End" how DEs and people close to him can have human relationships, that it isn't only about competing for LV's favor for them. And Lucius ought to be aware by now how fickle and undependable _that_ is.

Harry wasn't hurt too badly in his fight with Avery. He bruised his knuckles and it was enough for Voldemort to take note, send a little note saying "DOn't fucking do that" but not enough for him to come himself and chew him out.

There are many ways that Harry can be raped/sexually molested without being hurt. Avery could use the breath spell on Harry every time Harry does something that displeases him and force Harry to give him a handjob/blowjob. He could also rub himself off against various parts of Harry's body. He could use magic to cut off feeling to Harry below his waist and then dose him with painkillers after it is done. He could give him painkillers before he begins.

Also, I think because his father was one of the first Death Eaters, he is used to getting away with things that other members weren't.

You are right about the timeframe for Harry's capture but not what led to it. You will learn more about Snape and oblivation in a later chapter.

I always thought the Horcrux search was a little off in Deathly Hallows as well. I hope you find my version of it more satisfactory. Luck is a good part of any adventure as I know well myself, but too much luck in any story annoys me. It took me FOREVER to figure out how to get the cup out of Gringott's. It's not the best method and I am still reflecting on it and trying to figure out other ways. But, I think my version is far more believable than the one in the story.

Hahaha. I will tell you guys all about what Snape does and doesn't know eventually. Either through the Snape version or as notes posted at the end.

I was sooooo disappointed with the Death Eaters and Voldemort in canon!! They weren't scary at all, they were weak. I understand that her primary audience is children, but there are people in the world who do horrible/terrible things even while being good fathers/friends/mothers/etc. I know my Lucius is out of canon but I was really disappointed with the Death Eaters in the final book.

Especially Voldemort's whole "You have an hour, Harry!" "Okay, you have another hour!" "One more hour but this is your last one!" "I'm warning you, young man!"

The Elder Wand conversation will come later. I wrote it yesterday in a boring meeting. Honestly, this may be giving stuff away, but I was a bit surprised that no one said "Voldemort's spells can't hurt Harry because he has the Elder Wand" but I guess people just assumed that either Voldy didn't get the wand or Harry isn't the master of it anymore.

Unfortunately, I don't think that will be explained until Snape's side of the story. Harry is just too wrapped up in his own drama to pay attention to the drama that is going on among the Death Eaters. There is a very good reason for it, it wasn't a mistake on my part. :) Same with Avery and Snape. They were good friends in Hogwarts. What's changed now?

Lucius does still love his family, which is why he helped Draco out so that Draco got a chance to torture Harry.

Re: Avery, sure there are a lot of ways he could have done it and some of them wouldn't have harmed Harry. However, it looked like he was going for the most obvious and direct option, which was guaranteed to result in harm. I may be terribly ignorant about these things, but wouldn't there have been bleeding, even with a painkiller?

I am glad that you came up with alternative for getting the cup - one that hopefully would be more tricky and convincing than in canon.
Maybe you also revised the whole embarassing diadem sequence? I.e. the pinnacle of Deus ex Machina and stupidity. I mean, if a Horcrux can be destroyed by accident with a spell that Crabbe Jr. can master in a year, then I really don't see why they bothered with the Sword or why HCs are supposed to be so durable. Not to mention Voldy thinking that nobody would know about a room filled with the items clearly hidden by other people or neglecting to put some serious protections on it once he had unrestricted access for a year when his people had power in Hogwarts.

IMHO, Snape version of the story would be great. I so love clever, witty and bitter protagonists who are going through an emotional wringer!

Honestly, this may be giving stuff away, but I was a bit surprised that no one said "Voldemort's spells can't hurt Harry because he has the Elder Wand" but I guess people just assumed that either Voldy didn't get the wand or Harry isn't the master of it anymore.

Speaking for myself, the whole "Harry is master of the Elder Wand because he got Draco's wand" never made any sense for me. Nor did I understand what DD meant by not telling anybody to hide his wand once he was dead. IMHO, it would have been better if normal wands weren't so fickle and Harry just took the EW from somebody directly. Anyway, you are the author of this story...

Re: Avery and Snape, he is such a brute that he could now hate Snape for any number of reasons, the most obvious one being that Snape "rose above his station" and is now a serious competitor despite his impure blood.

But with Lucius I am stumped. Snape was the only person willing to bend LV's orders to protect Lucius's family while they were under pall of Voldy's displeasure and the only one who might have been willing to do it again. Morever, Draco doesn't have what it takes to be a good DE and could use any additional protection and help once he is out of school. So, hm... Did Snape have an affair with Narcissa and Lucius found out?

BTW, of course Harry is very wrapped up in his own drama - he has a right to be for a change! But he could witness some more DE-interaction and we could glean something from it even if he himself remains oblivious.

May your meetings remain as dull as possible ;).

There would be bleeding and possibly internal damage but Avery could use healing potions and healing spells and keep Harry drugged on painkillers until he healed enough to be left alone. Avery was also going to fuck around with Harry first, but then when Harry attacked him, he became so angry he completely forgot about Voldemort's orders and would've physically harmed Harry in the most direct and brutal manner possible.

I think Avery is both dumb and incompentent. If Snape had been there, he would've realized instantly that Harry was self-harming. It never occurs to Avery partly because he underestimates Harry but also because he just isn't very intelligent. But very few characters in the series are intelligent as Snape. I don't think Snape is a very powerful wizard, I think he's just cunning.

The Diadem sequence is different too although I haven't decided who is going to destroy it yet and when. I also thought that VOldemort hiding it in that room and thinking no one else would find it was the stupidest thing ever. I think Voldemort should've rehidden that.

I am writing a section that deals with the Malfoy's now. Part of the reason that you guys don't learn much about the Death Eater's internal squables are also that Harry isn't exposed to most of them. They aren't going to bring him into their meetings while they regard him as a threat and Snape uses Muffliato on him whenever a Death Eater calls while Snape is with Harry. Also, Snape doesn't like talking about his Death Eater association with Harry and refuses to answer any questions about it. However, Harry becomes more curious about the inconsistancies and interactions he does see as he stops being so wrapped up in himself and his own troubles.

I agree Draco doesn't have what it takes to be a good Death Eater and would need lots of help and protection outside of school. :D It's interesting the idea you had as to why Lucius and Snape are butting heads because of something I wrote yesterday. I'm literally biting my fingers to stop myself from writing more. I really need a timeturner so I can write faster and get these chapters out to you.

Ugh, the Elder Wand mess. I wrote a whole livejournal entry devoted to it because there are inconsistancies within DH:

"In Kings Cross station, Harry says, “If you planned your death with Snape, you meant him to end up with the Elder Wand, didn’t you?” and Dumbledore answers, “I admit that was my intention, but it did not work as I intended, did it?”

Dumbledore had to have known that Expelliarmus would transfer the ownership of the Elder Wand and I think he would've told Snape this as well as other details about the Elder Wand. But, if Dumbledore expected Snape to take him and told him to take it, then why didn't Snape go get it? It makes me suspect that he didn't tell Snape about it and just hoped for Snape to have it. But this was basically setting up Snape's death! My mom heavily dislikes Dumbledore for this.

However... Harry later says, “Aren’t you listening? Snape never beat Dumbledore! Dumbledore’s death was planned between them! Dumbledore intended to die, undefeated, the wand’s last true master! If all had gone as planned, the wand’s power would have died with him, because it had never been won from him!” Which is a complete contradiction with the whole 'Dumbledore wanted Snape to have the Elder Wand' which was said only the page before! It drives me crazy."

Canon Snape is the most screwed over person ever. He has a poor home situation full of neglect and abuse yet he finds a friend, Lily. Unfortunately, Lily is a beautiful girl and she draws attention of the most popular boy in school, James. James dislikes Snape for other reasons, but also realizes that Snape likes her, so he sets about destroying him in her eyes to make himself look better. The teachers all love James and he has a huge gang of friends so Snape never gets help defending himself against them even if he trusted authority enough to go to them. So... he hooks up with the few people who show him a bit of respect and Lily says 'don't hang out with them, they are bad' but she has all her own friends and doesn't understand how lonely he is.

These guys, Avery Mulciber, and Lucius, are associated with powerful wizards and invite him to join them and become a powerful wizard too, even though he is a halfblood. Snape thinks that if he joins them, Lily will be interested in him, so he does. It doesn't and Lily instead runs off with his worst enemy, James. On top of that, Snape probably accidently causes of the death of Lily by relying information to Voldy (the timeline has enough room that we can assume either way as to whether snape knew lily would be implicated by the prophecy or not). So... he's responsible for the death of his loved one because of an organization that he joined for her!

So then he goes to Dumbledore, who is highly Machiavellian, and spends the next years trying to save the offspring of the girl he loved and his most hated nemesis. The little brat seems to be mostly like his father and is always getting himself in highly dangerous situations. Dumbledore claims to be helping Snape, but then he says, "Oh, btw, the boy must be killed by Voldemort" And Snape's like "wtf, all this time I've been saving his life just so you can get him killed?!" We don't know if Dumbledore told Snape that there was a chance Harry would come back or even if Dumbledore thought there was a chance for it. We know that Dumbledore didn't tell Snape about the Horcruxes (and I think there is very good evidence that he didn't tell Snape about the Elder Wand) so it appears that Snape was mostly blindly following a guy who is very manipulative under the hope that it would all work out for the best.

All of this sort of makes me suspect that Snape committed suicide in DH. i wouldnt' blame him at all!

I think he misunderstood or underestimate the strength of Snape's convictions. He seemed susprised when he saw Snape's Patronus, saying, "After all this time?" I don't think anyone in the series ever really understood Snape or took the time to really get to know him. He kept his true self so wrapped up and hidden that not even Dumbledore, who knew the most about him of anyone, knew his heart.

The Kings Cross part is page 721 in the American version. The second part is 742 of the same version.

I don't think Snape is a very powerful wizard, I think he's just cunning.

We haven't seen any other measure of power in HP world than knowledge and skill, however. Well, quick reflexes are also helpful. But beyond that - either you know lots of spells and can perform them well, or not. Harry knows a few relatively simple spells, which he performs well, but also has great reactions and thinks quickly on his feet. There never was any other sign of "power" from him. And both Voldy and DD were just knowledgeable, skilled and creative.

BTW... how would Snape help them hunt the Horcruxes when he is stuck in the prison same as Harry?

Not hunt for them, but he could find out their possible locations and give some info on protections, advice on overcoming them and in case of Bella's vault even provided her or her husband's key. He had a lead on the cup since the second chapter of HBP for Pete's sake! That would have been the most reasonable use of his position with the DEs, as nobody else on the good side really had such access to and knowledge of Voldy and the Dark Side. Etc.
And yes, in your story he is stuck with Harry, but he can communicate with the outside world. A clever man like him could have found a way to communicate his finding to H&R. And as everybody is a bit more competent in your version, maybe both he and the trio could have a secret contact to the Order?

Re: Snape's and DD's portrayal in DH, neither makes sense to me. If you want to depict somebody as Machiavellian, show me some good plotting. As it was, I won't even dignify DD's arrangements with the term "plan". Basically, he just illogically dumped everything on 3 half-educated teenagers and didn't even provide them with necessary information (like where he had already looked and yet intended to look, for instance), electing to play some silly mind-games instead. And he put Snape in untenable situation for no good reason. If he just wanted a quick death, he should have carried a swift poison.

As to Snape, only somebody brain-dead would think that joining Muggleborn-haters would impress a Muggleborn. And would somebody with Snape's intelligence actually _want_ to remain a slave to a demented monster for the rest of his days, if not for the threat to his lost love? I mean, really, a man like him must have become disenchanted pretty soon.

Lily also came through as a shallow, disloyal person. Her _other_ friends?! What friends? She didn't have a bridesmaid, Harry didn't have a godmother and none of his mother's supposed school friends, the ones she left Snape for, even bothered to write a card to Harry, ever. For all her posturing, she no more had other true friends than Snape did.

I think Voldemort had a lot of raw talent. He was performing a lot of fairly advanced magic before he had even heard of Hogwarts. Harry did magic too but it was very accidental. It is true that Voldemort, like Snape, was also very inquisitive. I think his scientific curiosity combined with his raw power that made him become so powerful. Lily was another person who seemd to have a lot of raw talent for that matter.

I think that there are different levels of power which correspond with different talents. Harry cottoned on to some types of magic much more quickly than others and same with the other characters. Snape always complains that Harry has a mediocre power level of magic and I think this is true. In some of the fics that I've read, Harry is greatly powerful (kind of like how Ginny is kind of written in the books) innately. However, I think Harry is rather average in his innate power level as is Snape. Snape strikes me as a person who may not have a lot of raw talent, but knows how to manipulate what he works with so he is able to perform at levels far above someone who has more raw power.

Of course, I may have the completely wrong idea about how magic works. JK never fully explains it and I'd doubt she use my scientific explanation of interacting with another dimension, but hey.

It won't change what I write for this part of the fic because Harry strikes me as the type who would assume that Snape had a lot of raw power, rather than he was clever in his use of magic. Snape has no reason to disabuse him of this notion right now either. :)

As to the Horcruxes, you bring up a lot of good suggestions. I can't talk much about the issue now but I will be revealing more details in the next 10 chapters.

Dumbledore seems hardly the mastermind I think JK wanted him to be. I sort of have the same fear with my story. I think Snape is very clever in my story, but I'm sure other people will look at some of the things he does and go "that was stupid, he should've done XXX." He does make mistakes of course.

Hey, it's canon Snape. JK said, "Given his time over again he would not have become a Death Eater, but like many insecure, vulnerable people (like Wormtail) he craved membership of something big and powerful, something impressive.
He wanted Lily and he wanted Mulciber too. He never really understood Lily’s aversion; he was so blinded by his attraction to the dark side he thought she would find him impressive if he became a real Death Eater."

I imagine that he was sort of blinded to who and what the Death Eaters really were. For example, I imagine they had other policies which Snape might've agreed with and perhaps in their lower levels were not as virulently racist. I also assume that Snape was fairly low on the totem pole and did not realize what it really meant to be a Death Eater until he was well in it and had sort of made friends with all of them. Besides, he was half blood but he was accepted in.

And hell, he was probably 16-17 when he joined them. I know I did a lot of really stupid stuff at that age because I was looking for acceptance, friendship, love.

I think Snape would've become disenchanted eventually even without the death of Lily. I think when Voldemort targetted Lily, it sort of made Snape wake up and realize what he had gotten himself into.

I wouldn't call canon Lily shallow or disloyal. I think it is more that she really couldn't understand where Snape was coming from. I mean, he was really into the Dark Arts and hanging out with people who did horrible, mean things to some of her female classmates and possible friends. And... his male pride prevented him from letting her help him out with his problems. I bet he didnt tell her half of the things that went on between him and James. And then, when she did try to intervene, Snape (understandably, male pride) snapped at her.

I'm pretty sure she was friends with a lot of people from the Order. Some of them survived on to give Hagrid pictures of James and LIly for Harry. You ask why they didn't write cards, but neither did Lupin and Lupin was great friends with both of them. Maybe they were told not to by Petunia when Harry was a wee baby.

Well, that's not really pertinent to your story, but IMHO what Lily and young Voldy displayed pre-Hogwarts wasn't "raw power", but control, i.e. skill. It appears to me that wizarding children are normally discouraged from bringing their wandless magic under control and told that only a wand can make it reliable. That must surely make lives of parents easier and perhaps it is even thought that too much skill in this department can interfere with later formal education. Most Muggleborns, OTOH, are in denial about their abilities and don't try to hone them. But Voldy and Lily were clearly big exceptions. OTOH, both Snape and Hermione were able to learn wand-reliant spells very quickly and from books alone. Also, wandless Vapormort could only do things that he could do as a child pre-Hogwarts. I.e. once he got a wand, this aspect of his magic ceased to improve.

To me, HP magic is like maths. If you understand the principles and study enough examples, you can solve the problem. If you have talent, you can be creative and improve on what you have been taught. And of course, different individuals have better aptitude for different aspects of it and thus have more or less difficulties in mastering them.

Don't worry about your Snape's planning ability! Any coherent plan would be a vast improvement over the mess that DD got "credited" with in DH. And a little contingency would never go amiss, even if you don't actually include it in the story. For instance, did Snape consider what would happen if he was definitively removed as a guard or killed? It seems to me that Harry would be doomed in such a case, so there needs to be some provision for his escape. Even the best layed plans don't survive the contact with the enemy after all...

Re: canon Snape and Lily. The problem with the DEs is that in canon we never heard about any policies or recruitment slogans of theirs apart from racism. So, there is nothing there for a person in love with a Muggleborn to delude himself with. They are more like the Klan rather than like the German Nazis.

Re: the DAs, we see the protagonists liberally and sometimes frivollously engaging in those in DH, so Lily's horror of them seems rather hypocritical. Not to mention that it is never explained why doing mean and horrible things to somebody with the DAs that are not unforgivables and leave no lasting effects is worse than doing the same with the MoM-approved spells, like the Marauders did. And since canon Avery was neither expelled nor seriously sanctioned for whatever he did to McDonald, I have to wonder how bad it really could have been. After all, he wasn't from DD's favourite House, nor particularly charismatic so why would he have been let off easy?

Regarding Snape's worst memory, I may not be male, but I would have been furious with such "defense" too. A true friend would have gone to his side and called J&S on their cowardice in attacking 2:1. Or just taken out Sirius and let Snape and James duke it out fairly. Instead, Lily was totally focussed on James. Etc.
About her "friends" - no bridesmaid(s), no godmother for Harry, what kinds of friends were those? And even if Petunia forbade any contact, surely they knew that they could try again once Harry went to Hogwarts. Lupin is bad example here - he was a totally screwed individual who probably thought that Harry was better off without him. Concerning possible friends in the Order - there is no indication that any of the members were her classmates apart from James and his friends. And when Moody told about various members nobody was introduced as Lily's close friend. Personally, I think that all pictures in Harry's album came from Lupin. IIRC not a single one of them showed his parents as children anyway.

I suppose so. I admit, it was an assumption on my part that there are different levels of raw talents and abilities. Perhaps instead some people just more intune to controlling this alternate dimension.

I will have to think about this more, try to figure out how the actual mechanics of it work and then understand it within its context.

Snape told Harry that if he should ever be killed then Harry should try to get Voldemort to kill him.

I assume that what the Marauders did was different than what the Slytherins were doing. I also assume that Avery and Mulciber's fathers were highly influential sort of like how Lucius Malfoy is now. I bet Draco can get away with a lot more stuff than even Harry at times.

It's more that Snape didn't want Lily's help rather than he didn't think she helped enough. I bet that on numerous previous occasions Lily had tried to stand up for Snape and Snape had told her to butt out too. A guy who has to rely on female for protection is regarded as weak by other guys. He would want to appear strong and powerful to her and having to be saved by her would demasculizine him. I see him being upset because she was helping rather than because she wasn't helping enough based on what I understand of male psychology.

I had some very, very close friends in High School that I lost touch with within the next year. It doesn't mean that I didn't love them and they didn't love me, it was just that we took separate paths. Indeed, if it wasn't for myspace/facebook, I wouldn't still be in contact with anyone anyone from High School. This doesn't mean that we weren't close friends in High School. I imagine that being busy with the Order sort of required a bit of secrecy and could've helped Lily drift apart from her High School friends. Maybe she was also a tomboy like me and had a more male friends than female friends (only reason I had so many female friends was because I went to an all girl school). I would think that the Longbottoms went to Hogwarts. Hagrid said that he contacted friendS so I think he obtained from more than one source.

I went back and searched through PoA for the reference to the marriage picture.

"There was his father waving up at him, beaming, the untidy black hair Harry had inherited standing up in all directions. There was his mother, alight with happiness, arm in arm with his dad. And there ... that must be him. Their best man... Harry had never given him a thought before."

It doesn't say that there isn't a bridesmaid, indeed I think the text implies there were many people in the pic so Harry sort of had to search for Sirius. Harry never paid attention to who else was in the pic until he heard that Sirius Black was his dad's best man. I assume that more people where at the wedding and involved in it than just those 3. At least Lupin would've showed up.

I don't have any childhood pictures of any of my friends. Just one of an ex and I mostly have it because she transitioned.

I am assuming you wish to remain anon but I would love it if you set up an email account so I could bounce a section I am writing for chapter 39 off of you. You seem able to think of a lot of questions, even ones that I may overlook.

“STUPIFY!” Snape yelled.
It's Stupefy (:

Amazing chapter, I didn't expect Snape to rescue Harry so soon. I expect a whole lot of blood, angst, and pain this chapter. But I'm happy :D

Can't wait for your next chapter!
